Looking for a tax expert (CPA) who is excited by technology, excels at providing excellent customer advice, and is a highly organized, ambitious self-starter.Better Bookkeeping is a unique company in the oftentimes bean counter-esque world of tax and bookkeeping. We are first and foremost, a software company. Our small team is focused on creating a bookkeeping and tax strategy product that provides our clients targeted information and advice without all the “bells and whistles” they don’t need or want. We’ve been building our core product for the last few months and are now taking on beta users and a small number of paid clients, hoping to grow next quarter and throughout 2023 and beyond!About the JobClient Tax Strategy, Prep & Filing
Preparation and review of client business tax returns
- Management and preparation for any state & local income tax filings
- Preparation and review of estimated tax payments
- Assistance with preparation of financial statement disclosures
- Preparation and review of client personal tax returns
- Sign all client business and personal tax returns (CPA required)
Bookkeeping & Client Setup
- Oversees bookkeeping function – may jump in and help with bookkeeping but ultimately is accountable for all books prepared for clients, ensuring accuracy and tax strategy adherence.
- Manages and reviews month end financial report delivery and reviews
- Assistance with preparation of financial statement disclosures
- New client payroll setup assistance (Gusto), including tax setup (where needed)

- Use the product and provide feedback to Product team via Notion, Slack and Loom
- Work with the team to create product roadmap, prioritize feature development and help drive the overall product direction (next up – adding programmatic tax strategy into the system!!)Compensation- Compensation depends on experience. 75-90k+ base plus bonus.

We need someone who is excited to use their skills and experiences to provide direction to our rapidly developing product, drive tax strategy and execution for our clients, and help grow our customer base.
Because the team is small, communication is essential. You need to be comfortable with video stand-ups, real-time Slack chats, and dedicated working collaboration hours. We are also looking for someone to interface with clients and potential clients via video calls, Loom and email. Additionally, we need someone who wants to roll up their sleeves to get the job done and is ok wearing many hats while we grow and hire.Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA
- 3+ years of corporate and personal tax experience
- Even better – experience working with entrepreneurs and small businesses using S-Corps, Partnerships and other tax strategies.
- Bookkeeping experience – Small businesses
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
- Works well with minimal supervision
- Thrives in a fast-paced environments and can prioritize and manage multiple clients
- Highly self-motivated, takes initiative; identifies and addresses issues; detail-oriented
- Expert with Excel, Google suite – comfortable embracing new tech platforms
- Interest in automation and using tools to further improve workstreams and processes
- Experience with tax software (Lacerte Income Tax a plus)
